Two results on collective QCD effects will be shown at the conference: a study of angular correlations of charged particles in jets produced in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV, and comparisons of fluctuations of the net electric charge in pp and PbPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of mass energy of 5.02 TeV. Two unconventional searches highlight the efforts to explore new, exotic signatures of long-lived particles (LLPs) predicted by models of physics beyond the SM. A new technique is applied to use the CMS muon system as a calorimeter, reconstructing showers for the identification of many possible decay modes of long-lived particles. The search provides limits for a large range of LLP masses, including the most stringent LHC limits on the branching fraction of a Higgs boson to a pair of LLPs, for LLP masses below 10 GeV. A similar approach is used to search for decays of long-lived heavy neutral leptons (HNLs) produced in association with a prompt electron or muon. Such particles are predicted in models explaining neutrino masses via the “see-saw” mechanism. The study provides the most stringent limits for HNLs with masses of a few GeV. Read them here:
