CMS at Moriond 2024

The CMS collaboration released over 40 new results in Winter 2024, presented at various conferences around the world. The largest part of these results has been presented for the first time at the Moriond 2024 conferences: Electroweak Interactions and Unified Theories (EW) and QCD and High Energy Interactions (QCD).

These results cover the full spectrum of the CMS physics program. Amongst these, there are some key highlights, that will be added to throughout the conference:

SMP-22-010: A high-precision measurement in Higgs and Standard Model physics: the determination of sin^2 theta_eff with an accuracy comparable to that of the combined four LEP experiments
SMP-23-005: the most precise measurement of the tau g-2 (with a factor 5 improvement in precision with respect to LEP) through the observation of ditau photon production at high energy
BPH-23-004: the first evidence for CP violation in Bs mixing, through the AI-powered measurement of the mixing weak phase φS in Bs->J/ψ φ decays, based on a new-generation flavor tagging algorithm exploiting graph neural networks.
BPH-23-005: the study of CP violation in D0->KSKS decays using our special 2018 B-parking dataset. Thanks to this data collection strategy, we could study an all-hadrons final state, which would otherwise be inaccessible to CMS.
EXO-22-019: a search for heavy neutral leptons in the low-mass regime. Using our special 2018 B-parking dataset we could collect a pure sample of B meson decays that we exploited for this search.
TOP-23-001: the observation of top-antitop entanglement. Using the 2016 data, we studied top production at threshold, including a novel treatment of a potential background: the production of bounded top pairs (the so-called toponium), establishing top-antitop entanglement even in presence of these effects.
EXO-22-026: a search for new physics in dijet production using unsupervised, semi-supervised, and weakly-supervised AI algorithms for anomaly detection.

Several of these new results are based on data collected during the ongoing Run 3, underlining the increasing focus of CMS on this new data sample:

The measurement of WW (SMP-24-001) and tW (TOP-23-008) production rates at the highest collision energies ever probed
The search for new particles from a dark sector, performed in events with displaced jets (EXO-23-013)
An early measurement of the luminosity collected during 2022 (LUM-22-001)
