Summary of the AGR (April Global Run)

The celebrations at the end were modest but intense.

The April Global Run (AGR) took place last week, Monday-Friday 7-11 April. This being the first run since November 2013, the last run using the Run-1 DAQ, and the last run just before an extended cooling maintenance at P5, we embarked on the week with an ambitious plan of work.

Preshower ready for installation

Working on one of the ES discs in the “tent” in SX5.

As reported previously (ECAL Preshower removed from detector for repairs), both Preshower (ES) endcaps were removed temporarily from CMS and moved to the SX5 building at the end of 2013.

CMS presents a new precise measurement of the top-quark mass

Fig 1: The invariant mass of the top-quark candidates before (left) and after (right) the kinematic fit. The points are the data, while the three histograms show the expected distributions from different classes of simulated top-quark pair events.

The new top-quark mass measurement is the single most precise result as yet.
